Did you know? Library staff, trustees, and Friends of the Library across Minnesota enjoy free access to a host of online resources and (always timely) live virtual programming through United for Libraries. State Library Services, a division of the Minnesota Dept. of Education, recently purchased statewide access to this portfolio of assets maintained by the arm of the American Library Association most closely aligned to Friends of the Library work. Upcoming opportunities include:
‘Practical Policy Management,’ Sept. 9, 1 p.m. Central
This next entry in United’s ongoing Learning Live series will highlight the statutory responsibility of library boards to create policy, as well as the role that library directors and other champions have in implementing and explaining effective policy. REGISTER
‘Library Policy Retreat for Boards: Intellectual Freedom & Artificial Intelligence': Sept. 27, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Central
This long, two-part session is designed for boards and directors to attend individually, or as a group assembled in a library meeting room. (Friends can show up too!) Agenda will focus first on intellectual freedom and book challenges, and then pivot to how AI can be strategically, responsibly implemented in library settings. REGISTER
‘Public Charities Can Advocate and Lobby’: Oct. 22, 2 p.m. Central
This workshop will cover advocacy activities that library foundations and Friends can legally engage in, and how to maximize your non-lobbying advocacy when representing 501(c)(3) public charities. REGISTER
