The summer months have a strange way of slipping through our fingers. With the Fourth of July lull just around the corner, don’t forget these July deadlines:

Evy Nordley Award [Friday, July 10]: As is our tradition, MALF is eager to profile the best Friends of the Library initiatives from this past year. Any Friends-supported project is eligible for consideration in the Evy Nordley contest, provided that modest base criteria are met. Top prize is $1,000; runners-up will also receive monetary prizes.

Common project types include special events, successful fundraisers, membership drives, and advocacy campaigns – but the sky is the limit! Click here for more examples, as well as complete details around eligibility.

Stand Up for Standout Friends [Friday, July 31]: Every successful Friends group is blessed with “movers and shakers” – leaders who give their all to ensure the all-volunteer enterprise is successful and sustainable. As a general rule, their peers have few ways to acknowledge their commitment and standout achievements.

If that last statement resonates, you will find that “Stand Up for Standout Friends” is just the ticket. Each and every member organization may submit one name per year for this honor. In order to participate, your Friends group must make their selection and submit this form (pdf) (docx) – along with an explanatory cover letter.
