Last year, book lovers spanning from Crookston to Luverne congregated at more than a dozen Minnesota libraries for the inaugural Minnesota Libraries Read Together (formerly Great North Star Read Together).

Why? Organizers summed it up as follows: “Because libraries are more than buildings and bestsellers. They’re gathering spots, learning hubs for everyone, safe spaces, and cornerstones for informed, thriving communities. This statewide ‘read-in’ is a joyful way to show that we see — and need — our libraries.”

Minnesota Libraries Read Together is back for 2026, and the new name is not the only notable change. This time around, festivities will stretch for multiple days, between September 18-20. This expansion is intended to allow more libraries to coordinate tie-in events that fit their calendar and “at a level that fits their capacity, partnerships, and community needs.”

Indeed, Minnesota Libraries Read Together programs can be as ambitious or simple as each local organizer desires:

Tier 1 - Read Together
Tier 2 - Add Passive Programming
Tier 3 - Add Active Programming

Visit the program’s dedicated Google Site for specific event ideas, branded and downloadable templates, a media kit, and much more. If your library and/or Friends group opts to host a celebration September 18-20, alert the Minnesota Libraries Read Together team so that they can add your community to their developing calendar!
