The American Library Association is scheduled to hold its annual conference in sunny San Diego from June 27 – July 2. Every summer, this library mega-conference draws thousands of library staff, trustees, school media specialists, and fans of library work to the host city for a week chock-full of educational opportunities and a star-studded line up of keynote speakers.
Granted - travel costs and registration fees can be an obstacle for many. In recognition of that fact, United for Libraries (the Friends and trustees arm of the ALA) invites Friends of the Library to apply for its aptly-named Outstanding Friend Conference Grant. Made possible through sponsor ThriftBooks, this stipend of $1,000 will allow select Friends of the Library to attend this summer’s conference.
Qualified applicants will be first-time ALA attendees, active in a Friends group attached to a public library, and have their nomination supported by a letter of recommendation from either the library director or a Friends board officer.
Applications must be submitted by April 15, and nominees will be notified of outcomes by April 30. Click here for more details - and to apply!
