Our Year In Review!

year_in_review__large.pngAs we have said before, and will say again, your active and continued involvement in MALF is a visible marker of the fact that Minnesotans care about the health of our libraries. Year’s end is the perfect time to stop and reflect on how much we have accomplished, together, over the past twelve months

Highlights from our year in review include...

  • We brought the fourth installment of our annual fall workshop series to enthusiastic audiences in Edina, Aitkin, and Marshall. Nearly 200(!) of you Friends turned out in September for Beyond Book Sales: the Future of Friends Fundraising, our best rated workshop to date.
  • In another continuation of a favorite fall tradition, we met with others of you at Library Friends Day – part of the annual MLA Conference, and held this year in Saint Paul. We took that opportunity to bring you expert speakers, broker a highly productive ‘idea exchange’ session, and announce our fall award winners. (Hearty congratulations again to Friends of the Austin Public Library, winners of this year’s Evy Nordley Award for Best Project by Friends, and to Barbi Byers, Library Friend of the Year.)
  • We inducted Vermilion Community College, the academic home of Minnesota writer and conservationist Sigurd Olson, as Minnesota’s sixth official Literary Landmark.
  • In addition to numerous monetary awards granted to member Friends groups in 2015, MALF honored one of our early leaders with a contribution to the College of St. Catherine’s new Chris D. Olson Memorial Scholarship Fund.
  • We expanded member benefits, rolling out a new stipend grant to help first-time attendees travel to Washington D.C. for National Library Legislative Day (NLLD).

The above is only the tip of the proverbial iceberg. Visit our blog to catch up on what you might have missed in 2015!
